Christian Rad is a Principal Consultant with AT&T Labs. He began his career in Telecommunication industry in 1984 after joining AT&T Bell Laboratories as member of technical staff. In 1998 he joined Bellcore as Senior Scientist in applied research working on the Service Level Assurance and the dynamics of Service Level Management. During his tenure at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Christian was a major participant in the AT&T’s ATM/SONET Infrastructure Initiatives. His contributions have been in transport provisioning, maintenance and restoration with the development of solutions for multivendor networking and automated transport provisioning. He has made major contributions to AT&T’s FASTAR, Transport Self Identification Plan, and ATM/SONET transport network deployment. His current interests include end-to-end integration planning of transport network and the management of multi-level technologies and the related services. Christian Rad received his Ph.D. in 1973 in Nuclear Physics from Texas A&M University, followed by postdoctoral work at the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to joining AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1984, Christian was an Assistant Scientist at the MIT Bates Electron Linear Acceleratory laboratory (1975-1980) and an Associate Scientific at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (1980-1984). Christian has been a member of the American Physical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, T1M1.5 working group and ITU-T Question 23 on TMN and the TMF on SLA. He is a senior member of IEEE and has served as the technical program chair and vice chair of Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).

James Won-Ki Hong is professor in the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Pohang, Korea. He received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 1991 and an M.S. degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1985. He has worked on various research projects on network and systems management, with a special interest in Web, Java, CORBA, and XML technologies. His research interests include network and systems management, distributed computing, and network monitoring and planning. He is the Director of Distributed Processing and Network Management Lab (dpnm.postech.ac.kr) at POSTECH. He has served as Technical Chair (1998-2000), Vice Chair (2003-2005) and Chair (2005-present) for IEEE Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM). He is also serving as Director of Online Content for the IEEE Comsoc for two years starting Jan. 2004. He is a NOMS/IM Steering Committee Member and a Standing Committee Member of Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS, www.apnoms.org). He was technical co-chair of NOMS 2000 and APNOMS’99. He was Finance Chair for IM 2005 (www.im2005.org) and Finance Chair and Chair of Local Planning Committee for NOMS 2004 (www.noms2004.org). He is an editorial advisory board member of International Journal on Network Management (IJNM). He is also editor-in-chief of Korean Committee on Network Operations and Management (KNOM) Review Journal. He is a member of IEEE, Korean Institute on Communication and Sciences (KICS), KNOM, and Korea Information Science Society (KISS).

Rolf Stadler is a professor at the School of Electrical Engineering with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, since 2001, where he leads the network management group. He received an M.Sc. degree in mathematics in 1984 and a Ph.D. in computer science in 1990 from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. In 1991 he was a post-doctoral researcher at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory. 1992-1994 he was a visiting scholar at the Center for Telecommunications Research at Columbia University, which he joined in 1994 as a research scientist. 1998-1999 he was a visiting professor at ETH Zurich. Over the last 10 years, Dr. Stadler has been instrumental in the network management research community and has been program co-chair for premier IEEE conferences in the field, including DSOM’99, NOMS’02, and DSOM’07. He currently serves on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management (TNSM). His current research interests include scalable networks and systems, autonomous computing and self management.

Carlos Becker Westphall is Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Federal University of Santa Catarina – Brazil, where he acts as the leader of the Network and Management Laboratory and also coordinates some projects funded by the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq). Obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1985 and a M. Sc. degree in Computer Science 1988, both at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and a D. Sc degree in Computer Science (Network Management) at the Université Paul Sabatier, France, in 1991. He acted as a local group coordinator in the European MAX/ESPRIT II project which involved the Alcatel- TITN, British Telecom, HP, CSELT, SIRTI and NKT Companies. Since 1994, he has been a member of IFIP/IEEE IM (International Symposium on Integrated Network Management) and IEEE/IFIP NOMS (Network Operations and Management Symposium), IEEE/IFIP DSOM (Distributed Systems Operations and Management), IEEE LANOMS (Latin American Network Operations and Management Symposium) and IEEE APNOMS (Asia Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium) Technical Program and Organizing Committees. He also has been an Board of Editors (since 1995) and Senior Technical Editor (since 2003) of the Journal of Network and Systems Management of Kluwer Acadenic / Plenum Publishers. From May 2000 to May 2005, he acted as “Secretary” of IEEE CNOM (Committee on Network Operation and Management). Since 2003 member of the core team of the TMF UP (TeleManagement Forum Universities Program). Member 2004-2005 of IEEE ComSoc Membership Programs Development Board. Editorial Board member of the Computer Networks Journal (The International Journal of Computer and Telecommunications Networking, Former title: Computer Networks and ISDN Systems) of Elsevier Computer Science, since 01/20/2004. Member of the marketing team (since 2004) for the launching of a new electronic publication sponsored by IEEE ComSoc in the area of Network and Service Management.
