Minutes of CNOM/IFIP WG 6.6 Joint Meeting @ NOMS 2022
CNOM/IFIP WG6.6 Joint Meeting (hybrid format), April 26, 2022. The summary of the meeting is as follows.
- Noura (CNOM Chair) and Rémi (IFIP WG6.6 Chair) chaired the meeting.
- Noura welcomed the attendees and initiated the meeting by describing the CNOM activities, organization, officers, and how to get involved. Rémi introduced IFIP WG6.6, overall goals, activities, and how to participate.
- Rémi presented overall information and stats of CNOM and IFIP-endorsed conferences.
- Marinos provided further information about the call for workshops of CNSM 2022
- Noura provided detailed information about the journals and open call for papers
- Noura introduced the current CNOM Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Currently, there are 2 formed SIGs (ARMs and ANT) and 2 new ones to come.
- Marinos briefly detailed the activities of the ARMS SIG.
- Laurent presented the ANT SIG activities (panel at Globecom, talks on several events, contributions to different forums, special issue on Frontiers), and the next steps
- Noura
- Presented the current CNOM awards and IEEE Fellow
- Provided further information about members’ nominations to act as symposium chairs at GLOBECOM 2023 (Mohamed Faten Zhani) and ICC 2024 (open nominations), and nominations for the Distinguished Lecturer Program
- Provided information about the student competition and opportunities for young researchers
- Prosper mentioned the efforts to have more industry papers in the events and journals of our community
- Noura concluded the meeting and thanked the attendees.

Minutes of CNOM/IFIP WG 6.6 Joint Meeting @ CNSM 2021
CNOM/IFIP WG6.6 Joint Meeting (held online via IEEE Webex), October 25, 2021. The summary of the meeting is as follows.
- Noura (CNOM Chair) and Rémi (IFIP WG6.6 Chair) chaired the meeting.
- Noura initiated the meeting by welcoming the attendees and presenting the agenda.
- Noura presented the CNOM organization structure, goals, current officers, and how to become an active member.
- Prosper remembered that Netsoft is a fully endorsed CNOM conference and serving as TPC/OC member of it could also count to becoming a CNOM active member. Marinos mentioned the possibility to formalize the inclusion of Netsoft in the policies and procedures.
- Rémi provided an overview of IFIP/TC6, the WG6.6 activities, and how to get involved.
- Rémi presented recent conference statistics and upcoming events.
- Prosper provided further information about the CNSM 2021.
- Noura continued the meeting by providing detailed information about the journals.
- Carlos presented an overview of the network and service management taxonomy, provided detailed information about the conducted efforts to update it, showed the introduced new topics, and mentioned that the new taxonomy is already being used in the IEEE TNSM.
- Marinos provided an update on the Special Interest Groups (SIGs), their goals, and activities, briefly overviewed the four current SIGs and mentioned that two new SIGs are being prepared.
- Noura:
- Presented the current CNOM Awards
- Provided further information on the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program
- Detailed the ComSoc Student Competition
- Described the opportunities for young researchers
- Noura concluded the meeting, thanked the attendees, and opened to questions.
- Filip suggested shifting the deadline of CNOM Awards from the end of February to one month earlier.
- Marinos mentioned the need to find a replacement for Noura as chair of the Young Professional Award.
- Filip asked which activities were being planned for 2022. Marinos mentioned that one SIG is planning to submit a workshop for NOMS2022. Lisandro mentioned that NOMS already received 9 submissions for workshops. Prosper suggested moving some of those workshops to another event like Netsoft. Noura also mentioned the doctoral symposium.

Minutes of CNOM/IFIP WG 6.6 Joint Meeting @ IM 2021
CNOM/IFIP WG6.6 Joint Meeting @IM 2021 was held virtually, May 18, 2021. The summary of the meeting is as follows.
Filip De Turck (CNOM Chair) and Rémi Badonnel (IFIP WG6.6 chair) chaired the meeting.
- Filip welcomed the attendees and initiated the meeting describing the CNOM activities, its current members, and how to get involved. Rémi presented the IFIP WG6.6 and its activities.
- Filip presented the list of recent notable accomplishments by the ComSoc Technical Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).
- Filip initiated the CNOM officers’ elections by describing the requirements approved by the TEA Council. Zoom poll was used as the mechanism to count the votes. Michele Nogueira and Rémi were responsible for checking those eligible to vote. The candidates received one minute each to introduce themselves. The voting order was: 1) vice-chair; 2) chair; 3) tpc chair; 4) secretary.
- Rémi presented the 2020/2021 Conference Statistics. Aldri Luiz dos Santos reported the organization status of LANOMS 2021 and Prosper Chemouil provided more information for Netsoft.
- Filip reported the status of the CORE conference ranking application (submitted for IM, NOMS, Netsoft, CNSM, TNSM).
- Filip presented about the organizational activities in times of COVID-19. Toufik Ahmed shared his experiences with the organization of IM2021. Overall, it was a very positive experience, with many interactions between participants and no no-shows.
- Carlos Raniery presented the updated Network and Service Management Taxonomy and provided a detailed description of the efforts to conclude this task. Marinos Charalambides mentioned about the possible need to make an update in FCAPS.
- Marinos presented the proposed SIGs (Special Interest Groups). Laurent Ciaviglia provided further details about the ANT SIG and the proposed activities for the first 12 months.
- Filip presented the CNOM Awards: Best paper award, Young professional award, and Test of time paper award. Winners would be presented at the closing ceremony of IM2021.
- Filip introduced the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program and asked for nominations.
- Filip mentioned about the ComSoc Student Competition.
- Filip asked for contributions to organizational tasks in community, for example, young researchers are encouraged to volunteer to help organizing activities. Please feel free to contact the CNOM officers.
- Rémi and Michele confirmed and announced the results for the CNOM elections:

CNOM/IFIP WG6.6 Joint Meeting @NOMS 2020 was held virtually, April 21, 2020. The summary of the meeting is as follows.
- Filip (CNOM Chair) and Rémi (IFIP WG6.6 Chair) chaired the meeting.
- Please find attached the presented slides (in pdf format).
- Filip described the CNOM activities, its current members, and how to get involved. Rémi explained the IFIP, its origins, and activities.
- Rémi presented an overview of journals and further coming events.
- Filip provided detailed information of IEEE TNSM.
- COMMAG:
- Filip provided detailed information of the IEEE COMMAG Series.
- Noura and Prosper will be suggested as new Network and Service Management Series editors.
- Prosper and George discussed about the style of IEEE Communications Magazine papers. George mentioned they should not be a high level or survey proposals or an architecture without any validation and should have some realization behind to support it. Essentially IEEE COMMAG Series papers should have a tutorial text in the first part, while the second part should have the specific contributions to advance the state of the art. George also mentioned that Tarek S. El-Bawab, the new editor-in-chief has plans to change that and will get in touch with the Series Editors.
- Filip mentioned the need to define strategies to attract high quality COMMAG paper submissions from the community.
- Marc Olivier mentioned the need to create awareness about the possibility for the authors whom had papers published in TNSM to have another publication in IEEE COMMAG
- Alexander Clemm suggested to update the CNOM website with information about the style of papers and possibilities of publication.
- George emphasized that this community should support the magazine and that several of the papers do not come from the community itself.
- Rémi provided detailed information of JNSM, IJNM, and JSAC.
- Filip showed the upcoming special issues with open calls.
- Rolf Stadler reported the status of current JSAC Special Issues and mentioned that have not yet discussed about follow up issues. Filip mentioned there used to be a special issue and a whole series on softwarization, but it has been discontinued, however TNSM has a special issue on this topic.
- Rémi presented the 2019/2020 Conference Statistics
- Pal Varga reported his impressions on having NOMS virtually. Mentioned problems with microphone misuse and other small problems. However, overall everything was very good, specially the attendance, with 35~40 people in the rooms, while the keynote had 86 participants. No reported no-shows. Concluded showing a movie demonstrating the 3D room used for poster sessions, which was interesting as it brought an extra flavor for the posters. Marc Olivier liked everything and Prosper congratulated Pal for the efforts.
- Rémi and Filip presented the future conferences (TMA, Networking, Netsoft, CNSM, IM) and mentioned that some will be held virtually inspired by NOMS 2020. Prosper provided further details of NetSoft 2020.
- Filip showed a video created by Toufik of the city of Bordeaux to advertise IM 2021.
- Filip mentioned that CNOM officers can nominate colleagues to serve as symposium chair of ICC/Globecom and encouraged interested colleagues to contact the CNOM officers.
- Filip reported the CNOM Recertification status, which has been approved by the ComSoc TC Board
- Marinos explained the updated CNOM Policies & Procedures, available for feedback on the CNOM website until May, 5th 2020 and asked for feedback through mail. After this date, the new CNOM Policies & Procedures will be published online.
- Carol introduced the CNOM BPA and emphasized that the focus is only on conference papers. A first CNOM BPA will be selected by May, 1st and publicly announced during ICC 2020.
- Filip showed the IEEE Distinguished Lecturers Program and introduced the IEEE Student Competition. All interested colleagues are encouraged to participate. The CNOM officers are happy to nominate interested colleagues as IEEE Distinguished Lecturer.
- Carlos provided an overview of the Network and Service Management Taxonomy and mentioned it will be updated again later this year.
- Filip asked for contributions to organizational tasks in community, for example, young researchers are encouraged to volunteer to help organizing activities. Please feel free to contact the CNOM officers.
- Marinos reported the TC Newsletter recent initiative. Every 6 months will be a new newsletter.
- Filip concluded the CNOM meeting.
